"Kelly McKernan is a fine artist and illustrator from Atlanta, Georgia, currently based in Nashville, Tennessee. Kelly obtained her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Kennesaw State University, with a concentration in drawing and painting.
Kelly’s current body of work examines the personal growth that results from internal struggle. Her ethereal women are often battling the opposing forces of natural inclination and cognitive reasoning, or they may be seen in their moment of resolution, finally understanding their strengths, weaknesses, and desires. The multi-layered settings in Kelly’s work reflect her own fascinations and discoveries as a woman with a penchant for idealism, on a journey toward self-awareness.
Kelly has been exhibiting her work with numerous galleries since 2009, including Thinkspace Gallery, Gallery 1988, Young Blood Gallery, and Beep Beep Gallery. She also began her work as an illustrator in the same year and has illustrated three children’s book to date. Kelly is also a member of the PRISMA Artist Collective.
Kelly has always had an interest in art, even from a very young age. She often ruined carpets, walls, and her own clothes by experimenting with various media growing up. Kelly’s family has always been supportive of her passion despite this, however. She attended art camps every summer, took AP Art classes in high school, and continued growing as an artist into college. In her third year at Kennesaw State University, she began experimenting with her style and set a goal to create 30 paintings in a semester in order to jumpstart her portfolio. Kelly’s work soon garnered attention from local galleries and beyond, giving her the opportunity to expand her efforts outside of school. Now she shares the excitement of her successes with her husband, and eagerly looks forward to what the future might hold for her art."
