How to Bring Peace and Tranquility into Your Home

Life can be stressful, and your home should help relieve that stress. Your home is where you spend the majority of your time with your family and friends. When you and your husband get home from a stressful day at the office, your home should have the energy to shift you from busy and bustling to rest and relaxation.

Kitchen

A well-organized kitchen with plenty of counter space can do wonders for your anxiety and mental health. Clutter and chaos often erupt in the kitchen, especially when you need to cook a big meal for yourself and the rest of the family. Spice racks and drawer organizers are fantastic tools to prevent clutter and keep you relaxed while you cook. Don’t have a dishwasher? Try to reduce the number of dishes you have so you don’t overload the drying rack. Put the kids to work and have them wash and dry the dishes so you can skip the dish rack altogether.

Living Room

Less is more if you need to keep the positive energy flowing in your living room. Don’t pack your living room with big bulky wraparound couches and furniture. Get the exact amount of living room furniture you need for you, your family, and a few guests. If you want the kind of home that’s ideal for parties and social gatherings, it’s a good idea to keep extra chairs in the garage that you can pull out when needed, so you can have the best of both worlds. A coffee table that doubles as a storage unit for remotes and board games will maximize space and reduce clutter. Keep a few blankets and pillows handy for the kid’s sleepovers and movie nights on the couch. A few good throw pillows with high-quality shams is all you need to bring the living room together.

Plants

Plants can really improve the feeling of any home. You don’t need big bulky pots with a huge fichus to bring a little green indoors. Succulents are great indoor plants because they require minimal watering and sunlight. Cactuses can be great but they aren’t the most visually appealing. Aloe plants are oxygen bombs that will purify the air you breathe in your home. While fake plants are great because you don’t have to water or worry about them, real plants are so much better for your health and your home’s overall aesthetic appeal.

Art

Everyone has different tastes and preferences when it comes to art. You should always buy the kind of art that you love and find aesthetically appealing. However, if creating a tranquil environment is important to you, scenery paintings of majestic wildlife or oceanic views are always relaxing and enjoyable to look at.

Bathroom

Don’t let your counter get cluttered with toothbrushes and beauty products. The bathroom is the first room you use in the morning and it can set the tone for the rest of your day. Compartment drawers are a great way to keep all of your toiletries organized. Scented candles are a great addition to any bathroom. Lighting a scented candle can make your bathroom feel warm and welcoming.

Garden

A garden is a fantastic visual stress reliever and gardening makes for a fun weekend hobby for you and your family. Enjoy fresh vegetables in your salads at dinner while you teach your children about plants and bugs. Gardening is all about reconnecting with nature and nothing can be better for your home energy and feel.

Exercise Room

Exercise is important for both mental and physical health and it should be a staple in everyone’s weekly regimen. Having an exercise room or station in your garage can be a great way to motivate you. It’s hard to come up with excuses as to why you don’t have time to work out when it’s as easy as waking 30 minutes earlier and walking 10 feet from your bedroom door.

Your philosophy should be less clutter and more organization. A Zen home is a clean and organized home. Find the balance between your home's needs and what will make your home more relaxing.
