His quiet lifestyle belies Paul’s acute sense of the elements of fundamental beauty and sensuous allure. Paul understands the subtle difference between “sensual beauty”, and “sexual eroticism”. For an image to be sensuous simply means that it appeals to the eye and the heart. That understanding, combined with Paul’s expertise in composing the elements of his paintings within the parameters of his canvas, make Paul Kelley’s art, uniquely powerful, and appealing.

Paul's art is a labor of love. Each realistic painting is the result of hundreds of hours of work involving the careful manipulation of light and form, colour and composition, to create an image which is passionate and alluring. Whether the subject is a marine art or a young woman in high heels, the result is a balanced image which is both powerful and yet serene, mysterious yet inviting. Whether or not the piece is sensual art by subject, the result is a painting which is sensuous art in it's essential form.
Paul has been gratified by the positive response to his work over the expanse of his painting career. In the early 1990's he moved away from exhibitions and associations with galleries to some extent, and began dealing with individuals and corporations directly. Although this direct relationship between artist and client has been more demanding and time consuming, it has proven to be the apex of Paul's career, pushing him in fresh directions and to higher levels of excellence.
“Sensual Roots”, held in November 2008, in Toronto, marked a return to public exhibitions after 15 years, and was the culmination of 3 decades of crafting his art into images of beauty.
Paul is currently represented by the Emma Butler Gallery, St. John's, NL.
''Canadian artist Paul Kelley's works are portraits of nostalgia as well as studies in beauty, sensual art and a celebration of the human body. There are bobby socks and high heels, classic cars and black lace, Victorian homes and teasing hints at nudity. With his wide range of subject matter, Paul reveals the dual nature of pleasure: both a love of innocence and an infatuation with the power of seduction. In addition to the human body at the center of many of his works, Paul's love of architecture, furniture, automobiles and musical instruments comes through in his highly detailed paintings. These are works about how light merging with nature, fueled by passion, defines an artist's subject. The inviting images have an enigmatic quality to them; we are curious about his subjects to the degree that we are entranced by them.
